Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

June 30, 2013

WE ARE LIMITLESS

How appropriate our readings are today for they all speak of transition and purpose and the freedom we have been given to chose the purpose for which we will live.

Our first reading recalls the transfer of power from Elijah to Elisha – this wonderful illustration of anointed abandonment of a life lived for one to a life lived for many.

Our Second reading speaks of our freedom to choose: a life lived for the flesh or for the Spirit.

Our Gospel offers insight into what that life will look like:  followers of a way cannot follow well if they are looking in the other direction.  To be a follower requires complete surrender.

So as we listen to the readings today, we are given an opportunity to question our purpose.  Why do we live?  What or who do we live for?  And do we do so with the same enthusiasm as Elisha?

Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

June 2, 2013

SAYING GOODBYE

For the past 3 years, I have called Our Lady of Assumption Church in Windsor, Ontario home. This Sunday, I say farewell the community that has taught me what it means to live in a Eucharistic community.

This homily is far from the usual, for in it I share what I have learned over the past three years and offer my hopes for how we can live as Eucharist.

I should also add that the transition means I will not be posting any homilies for the next month as I move from one parish to another. However, this practice will resume the first Sunday of July.
